Beamlines ⇒ BL41XU

Abstract
BL41XU is a public beamline for macromolecular crystallography. This beamline is suitable for the following analyses because of the high-flux and high-parallel beam generated by the undulator.

  • Measurement of small-size (~10 μm) crystals and large-unit-cell (>600 A) crystals.
  • MAD and SAD measurement using wide-range X-ray energy (6.5~35 keV).
  • Ultra-high resolution (>0.8 A) structural analysis using >20 keV X-ray energy.

Two types of cryostream coolers, nitrogen gas (~100 K) and helium gas (~30 K), are installed on the diffractmator for experiments under cryogenic conditions.

Experimental Station

The experimental station is equipped with a diffractometer with a horizontal-axis air-bearing goniometer and detectors. Two types of cryostream coolers, nitrogen gas and helium gas, are installed on the diffractometer for experiments under cryogenic condition.    The X-ray CCD detector (Rayonix MX225HE) and imaging plate detector (RIGAKU R-AXIS V) are installed and available. Robotic Sample Handling System, SPACE developed at SPring-8 is also installed and available.

MX225HE is always set up on the detector base so that most users may use the CCD detector. If you wish to use the IP detector, it is necessary to describe it in the application form when you submit your proposal.

Robotic Sample Handling System

SPring-8 Precise Automatic Cryo-sample Exchanger (SPACE) is installed. Since this SPACE has been equipped with a newly developed attachment for usual metal magnet sample pins, users can select sample pin type, SPACE-specially screw pins or metal magnet pins.
